My wife spoiled me with this and an espresso maker among other things. So I got all cracked out on coffee and knocked out the first quarter of this Lego late on Christmas Day.
I thought for certain that I would have this done in a few hours, however this one has more than a few pieces. I stayed up until 4am on Monday finishing box #1 of 4. I know that it’s 1:8 scale, but it’s much bigger than I imagined.
For a brief moment I considered leaving it in the package and selling it in a few years, but that is not how I live my life.
I hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Espresso and Lego? Those are awesome presents. Have fun!

That was the toughest box. Might want to flip those gears so it shifts well while you’re at that phase.

Yea what is the deal with that? I grazed over an article about the transmission shifting in the proper order, but it was months ago.

Out of the box it shifts 1 3 2 4 if I remember. Also you can go from 4th to 1st with no block. I added one between on mine

I’m thinking about getting this. Can you share the details for the trans and what modification to it you made?

“For a brief moment I considered leaving it in the package and selling it in a few years, but that is not how I live my life.” Lego is about building and having fun while doing it. You made the right choice. Enjoy the final result :)

Need more info on the espresso machine!

Haha it’s a portable one. It works great! Our coffee machine at work sucks to the point that I was planning on buying a nespresso machine for my office anyway.
I know I will really cherish it the next time were staying in a hotel with a crap coffee situation (90% of hotels)

So it’s essentially a mini manual. That’s awesome!

So much want. Congrats, I hope you enjoy building that beast.

Nice! I got one too! Still on the first box though...

Ok so I tore it apart and flipped that gear over. Thanks for mentioning that. However it seems like there is just too much tension in the drivetrain in two of 4 gears. yours have that issue?

Mine doesn’t. You just flipped that set directly in front of the fake engine right?

yup, gear was on the left, spacer on the right. Now gear is on the right spacer on the left.

As promised, here’s the links to the posts I wrote.
Here’s the one about backwards gearing

And this will keep it from shifting from 4th to 1st

And you flipped the two grey ones as well?

Haha nope! I was looking at pic of the fix here and didn’t look closely or watch the video. Thanks!!

Should go from this
to this

Got it. So glad you mentioned it. I’d be so pissed if I got all finished up and found out the gearing was wrong.

It’s a real pain to drop the fake engine out. I changed mine out after I was 100% done.
